The Shortest Day

I just wanted to quickly pop in and acknowledge that today marked the winter Solstice.
As we approach Christmas with all the associated bustle, it can be easy to overlook this moment as we navigate through the darkest day of the year.
By ‘the darkest day’, I mean the day with the least amount of daylight.
Let’s just raise a glass to the turning of the light and perhaps focus on how all dark times do eventually pass.
The four Solstices each mark an important time in the wheel of the year but for me this one always carries with it the most poignancy.
The calendar year is drawing to an end and darker days can bring with them an inherent feeling of vulnerability.
While the Sun can often make us feel free, relaxed and even a little invincible, the colder, shorter darker days bring the need for stability, comfort and protection.
This is perhaps rooted in our DNA, a memory from an older part of us, when a fire and a good harvest meant the difference between life and death.
Something to raise a glass to perhaps, giving thanks for the warmth that surrounds us, the love we blessed with and the treats we are able to access should we decide to indulge.
Tomorrow the sun will rise again as it always does and the light will return day by day, little by little.
So lets celebrate this and all turning points, looking forward expectantly, to all the good days to come as the wheel turns once more.
Happy Yule everyone, keep the flame alive!

Big Gus the Tarot Bus does Italy

video22

In this episode Geoff and I took Gus the Bus high into the mountains in Italy as we go off the beaten track looking at truth of the houses rural Italy has to offer.
On this trail we find ourselves in the fairytale village of Bardi, where we find a very familiar kind of ‘Welcome in the Hillsides’ that also celebrates Halloween in very enthusiastic fashion.
As always, do leave me a comment on the video and let me know your thoughts?
